Everything you need to know about keeping blonde hair healthy

Being better blonde.

Maybe it’s because they have more fun or maybe it’s because light locks remind us of summer, but either way, we are seriously loving blonde hair right now. Keen to see what it takes to keep blonde hair healthy, we caught up with Jack Morton of TONI&GUY Georges. Here’s how it went down.

I want to go blonde. What do I need to know first?

Changing your hair from dark to light will drastically change your character and how you are perceived. Colour creates an emotional response from people. Any change will certainly garner attention. Which isn’t always a bad thing!

Will the colour damage my hair?

Not necessarily. Hair products have drastically improved over the years, and in the hands of a professional expert colourist, you shouldn’t notice the condition deplete. However, it will all be down to how you look after your hair in between salon visits.

Today we are using a really revolutionary product called Niophlex. By combining the groundbreaking technology in Niophlex with traditional colour and bleaching treatments, damage to the hair is prevented before it even starts. Niophlex adds bonds, elasticity and strength, enhancing the quality of the hair. It means that damaged blonde hair is going to become a thing of the past

What’s the upkeep like?

It will depend on the technique. More of a lived in, balayage look grows out beautifully. But going blonde from the roots will require a top up every five weeks or so. Illumina from Wella Professional is a premium colour range which leaves a much less visible regrowth, and has a more sheer, natural finish and shine. This is an amazing tool to use to keep regrowth looking softer.

Allergies and reactions to products are also a concern. Wella has a ground breaking new colour range called Innosense, which had a different make up to other colours, reducing the chance of you developing a reaction.

Are there any products I should be using?

You will want to maintain the tone of the blonde, and keep brassy tones at bay. Silver Saver shampoo from SP will help maintain a fresher blonde and prevent the hair from appearing yellow.

As a blonde, what should I be wary of?

The better your hair’s condition, the better the colour will hold. Use a protein-based treatment like Repair Mask from SP to help keep hair strong and prevent the tone of your blonde washing down the drain.

What’s the best tip you have for blondies?

Heat styling is a huge cause of hair damage and colour fade. I would lay off the irons and hairdryer wherever possible, maybe opting for a more natural finish, to help keep the condition of your hair and colour looking the best it can.

They say blondes have more fun, but I say blonde…

Is a state of mind!
