Date-rape drug detecting nail polish could soon become a real thing

It’s currently in official testing.

Remember the NC State University students who came up with the ingenious idea of a date rape drug detecting nail polish?

Well, they’ve actually done it.

It looks like we may actually be able to get our hands (or nails) on the polish pretty soon, too.

Last year, the concept created by four (male!) NC State University students blew up the Internet. It was their idea to develop a nail polish that would change colour when dipped into a spiked drink, alerting the wearer.

Before the team had the chance to develop the product, they received an influx of support and donations.

Start-up company Undercover Colors is now officially testing the polish, after about 11 months of work and more than $1million in donations.

“Undercover Colors is but one part of a larger effort to combat sexual violence,” explained co-founder, Tyler Confrey-Maloney. That effort also includes outreach, prevention, victim services and culture.

We’re all for it.
