What’s with all the hype around this Glossier highlighter?

Asking the big questions.

When CEO of Into the Gloss and Glossier, Emily Weiss, first introduced the world to Glossier’s Phase 1 skincare set, people went nuts. With her follow-up release, Phase 2, people lost it, again.

If you’re still lost, this is what you need to know.

Phase 2 is a makeup line all about the bare essentials. Every product in the kit is designed to be lightweight, so as not to detract from your natural beauty. But get this, when Phase 2 was initially launched, it was completely highlighter free. Beauty bloggers everywhere cried. Cried a lot.

But now beauty bloggers can chill, because Glossier has added Haloscope to the kit – the archangel of all highlighters (or so the hype makes it seem).

According to Into the Gloss’ blog, the brand wanted to drop a product like Beyoncé dropped her 2013 album. No teasers, no notice, just one big-ass surprise.

Highlighters are all the rage atm because they are the ideal beauty product if you’re after the ‘no makeup’ look but not in a literal way.

Haloscope is a dual-delivery highlighter. Its outer halo contains superfine, light-reflecting crystal extracts while the core has Vitamin E-rich coconut and castor oil. Combined, these ingredients allow for a dewy finish while hydrating your skin. So this means you’ll never be dry or glittery. You’ll just glow (in all the right places).

This little stick of heaven is available in two shades. Topaz is the option for those with medium to dark, olive skin tones. It’s warm, golden and creates that effortlessly healthy, sun-kissed glow. On the other end of the tonal spectrum, Quartz is more suitable for lighter and fair shades of skin. This highlighter is a pale, pearly pink shade which creates a pearlescent highlight, rather than a golden one.

So if the reviews are true, and Haloscope is as dreamy as it sounds, the fact that each highlighter only retails for $22 USD makes it a cheap as chips purchase. We’re starting to get it now.
