Ellery’s Spring 18 collection was inspired by forward-thinkers.
The collection debuted at Paris Fashion Week, citing theorists of the 20th century as inspiration. It was all about the woman of the future, mixing 20th-century style with 1960s retro futurism.
Silhouettes were elongated, punctuated with Ellery’s trademark voluminous details, such as puffy sleeves and ruching. A-line skirts, oversized button-up blazers and overcoats arrived in a colour palette of yellow, cognac, red, electric blue and silver.
Fabrics were highly textured to give off a futuristic appearance. Think crinkled silk velvet and sheen tissue, along with glossy fabrics paired with lamb leather, checked suiting and crisp cotton shirting.
The show also included a digital presentation, with four rooms featuring giant LCD screens showing the SS18 collection.
The visuals were matched with audio from a specially-curated abstract film, including interviews with industry leaders. A mannequin hall displaying 20 of Kym Ellery’s favourite looks rounded out the presentation.
