Lucky attendees to David Jones’ opening runway at VAMFF last night, would have seen Montana Cox take the runway, alongside Jesinta Campbell and Victoria’s Secret model, Erin Wasson.

The David Jones ambassador made a name for herself after winning season seven of Australia’s Next Top Model, while she was still in high school. Five years later, Montana has walked international runways for the likes of Chanel, Christian Dior and Givenchy. We caught up with Montana ahead of VAMFF to find out her advice on prepping for Melbourne’s biggest week of fashion.

What are you most looking forward to seeing on this year's runways?

There are some incredible designers on show, but a few of my favourites are Camilla and Marc, Christopher Esber and the always chic, Ellery.

What are you expecting to see on the runway?

Some really cool gothic silhouettes, the colour burgundy and look out for super cool, extra long trench coats.

Style tips for first time attendees at VAMFF?

I know all you Melburnians love black. My go-to look is ‘accidental cool’ (although you may have gone to lengths to create that messy-chic vibe), teaming jeans with leather and a studded jacket, shoe or bag.

What’s your number one piece of advice for models hoping to make it in the industry?

Be yourself, stay hungry (not literally), stay humble, be confident in yourself and don't be worried about what everybody thinks. Everyone is always going to have an opinion.

Do you prefer being on the runway or sitting in the crowd enjoying the show?

Runway! Every time!

Is there a particular piece of clothing you can’t live without?

My Frame jeans.

What’s the first thing you do when you have some downtime from your schedule?

Take that make-up off, put those sweatpants on and go straight to that Netflix.

Does it become difficult being away from family for a long time?

It does get hard but these days, with all these social media contraptions, it’s easy to stay well connected. But I always will miss a cuddle from Mum.

What album do you currently have on repeat?

A new rapper called Anderson .Paak. His album, Malibu.
