5 things Ja’mie King taught us about fashion

Quiche.

We, like every other Australian, take our life lessons from Chris Lilley.

From following your dreams with Pat Mullins, to pursuing a rap career with S.Mouse, anything is possible.

But when it comes to all things fashion and style, we take our advice from the one and only Ja’mie King. She loves formals, her friends say she looks like Mischa Barton and she dances like Missy Elliott, is there anything this girl can’t do?

We thought we would collate the most vital tips we have learned from the queen herself and pass them on, like any potential Australian of the Year would.

1. It’s okay to show a little skin, as long as you don’t go overboard

This fashion tip came from Ja’mie’s in-depth formal preparation. In selecting her outfit, she astutely said “I don’t wanna look slut, like, not slut, but sort of semi-slut.” Kind of like the rule in choosing between legs, midriff or cleavage, there is most definitely a difference between sexy and going too far.

2. It’s important to find your own unique way to feel good about yourself

While we may not encourage it, Ja’mie certainly had her strategies for maintaining high self esteem. “I do the 40 hour famine twice a week. Two days a week without food keeps me looking really hot.” Like the queen herself, find your own way of feeling quiche 24/7.

3. Menswear is not as easy to comprehend as one might think

Cufflinks, ties, shoehorns, the world of men’s fashion can sometimes be foreign to us ladies. We doubt men know the purpose of all female necessities, so don’t be ashamed if you don’t know the purpose of ties either. “Ties are so random, don’t you reckon? What are they, just pieces of fabric? They’re so weird.” Ja’mie certainly doesn’t understand them, and it’s okay to admit that.

4. Being confident isn’t something to be ashamed of

“I didn’t ask to be born hot.” Exactly. We did not design our appearance. You should feel good about yourself all the time and not have to apologise for it. This is the gospel according to Ja’mie.

5. Too much black isn’t always a good thing

As Ja’mie wisely warned, “No offence but you look borderline emo in that.” All black is okay at times, but isn’t as foolproof as we may think. Sometimes it depends on how we style our getup, but black head to toe can often toe the line of emo.

There you have it. We want you to feel Ja’mazing in whatever you wear. These are just some of the hottest tips, straight from Ja’mie King herself.
