A brief spiel on Janice Alida

And why she’s the model of the moment.

She might have just stepped onto your radar, however the words ‘new’ and ‘fledgling’ wouldn’t be used to describe New York-based model Janice Alida. The 26-year-old Canada native has been steadily amassing a fan base of well-respected designers, publications and campaigns over the past five years.

Janice embodies a hardworking and humble approach to her job in the industry. She acts as a welcome deviation from the social media celebrity/party girl mould that many young models have emerged from.

You would sooner find her spruiking charities on Instagram than the circus of clubs and parties her peers frequent. She even donated her last birthday to Charity: Water. She requested donations to the campaign instead of presents.

Excitingly for Aussie audiences, Janice has recently begun making serious waves on our shores. She’s featured in two recent spreads for Vogue Australia and is the face of the Dion Lee for Target capsule collection.

Resume

Janice made her runway debut at Paris Fashion Week 2010 walking in the Margiela show. Since then she has walked for the likes of Dior, Marc Jacobs, Vivienne Westwood and Proenza Schouler.

She made a long-lasting impression on audiences at Karl Lagerfeld’s Fendi SS13 show after she was handpicked to open the catwalk. Her entrance required her to strut through a giant exploding balloon (ballsy).

Extracurriculars

When she’s not in front of the cameras you would most likely find her in her kitchen whipping up her famous Mountaintop Cookies. She once spent the lead-up to Christmas baking and hand-delivering the goods to all the designers she’d worked for that year. These include the Olsen twins, Marc Jacobs and Vera Wang. Janice Alida = angel of the catwalk and the kitchen.

Personal Life

Janice has been married to photographer, designer and good-looking human Andrew Joseph since 2011. The pair has collaborated on various projects together, including Andrew photographing Janice for her Zara Worldwide AW14 campaign.

Andrew is creative director and designer of Prospekt Supply – luxury windbreakers and apparel for men. Despite the lack of a women’s line, Janice is often snapped around New York wearing the pullover jackets. She nails the ‘I just effortlessly grabbed this from my boyfriends cupboard’ look each and every time.

Couldn’t love her more.
