Cancel your plans: Australia’s largest ever fashion exhibition opens tomorrow

This is going to be big.

Call your mates and cancel plans. Tomorrow marks the opening of one of the strongest fashion exhibitions to which Melbourne has ever played host.

The National Gallery of Victoria’s 200 Years of Australian Fashion kicks off tomorrow and it is set to be huge.

The exhibition will present more than 120 works from over 90 designers and celebrate Australia’s unique and strengthening voice in the global fashion industry. Alongside works by contemporary designers, the exhibition will showcase standout designs from the last 200 years. You can expect to see Australia’s earliest known surviving dress (c1805) alongside a four metre-tall Dion Lee gown encrusted with Swarovski crystals (yup, wow).

Check out a sneak peek of the exhibition above, read our chat with the exhibition curator and get around it tomorrow. We will be.
