Phoenix announces shows in Melbourne and Brisbane

WORDS BY JAMES DI FABRIZIO

Like a riot like a riot oh.

French indie pop outfit Phoenix has locked in a small run of sideshows while in the country for Sydney City Limits.

It comes in the wake of the band’s sixth record, Ti Amo, a sonic love letter to Italy that arrives as a juicy blend of synth pop and disco.

Ti Amo is Phoenix’s first record since 2013’s Bankrupt! and was recorded at La Gaîté Lyrique (Paris) with the help of long-time collaborator Pierrick Devin.

“[It’s] an album about simple pure emotions: love, desire, lust and innocence,” said the band.

“It’s also a record about our European, Latin roots, a fantasized version of Italy: a lost paradise made of eternal Roman summers (hyper-light, hyper-clarity, pistachio gelato), juke-boxes on the beach, Monica Vitti and Marcello Mastroiani, fearless desire and Antique marble statues.”

Phoenix will perform at Margaret Court Arena on Monday February 26 and Brisbane Convention Exhibition Centre on Thursday March 1. Tickets via Live Nation.
