The NGV is hosting behind the scenes tours with Pageant

Exploring the Fashion and Textiles collection.

The National Gallery of Victoria is opening up its doors to let you have a peek behind the scenes.

Adding to an already extensive Arts Program, Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival has curated the intimate event, guided by the designers behind independent label, Pageant

Amanda Cumming and Kate Reynolds will take fashion-lovers through the NGV’s expansive Fashion and Textiles collection, all while discussing and showing their favourite pieces.

“The NGV has always been an important point of reference for both of us personally and professionally,” says Pageant.

So much so that two designs from their AW15 collection feature in the NGV’s permanent collection.

The pair will also be joined by NGV Fashion and Textiles curator, Danielle Whitfield.

The exclusive event extends the partnership between art and fashion, with the NGV previously hosting fashion exhibitions like 200 Years of Australian Fashion and its most recent, Viktor&Rolf: Fashion Artists.

“We feel the Melbourne fashion scene is really interesting and inspiring at the moment. There is a strong link to the art world here, which always creates a great energy and intriguing outcomes,” says Pageant.

The label’s own Hang Tough collection is an example of this, exploring the line between pragmatism and hope.

“At the time, we felt the world was a bit lost and we were dreaming of a utopia where everyone could get along. These ideas played out in a visual juxtaposition between the themes of war and peace.”

As for Pageant’s next move, the details are currently under wraps.

“We have a few exciting projects and collaborations in the works, but you will have to wait and see.”
