VAMFF Diary: Jean Paul Gaultier for Target Runway

The one that features Nicole Trunfio.

Here we are, VAMFF Day Three. Or Day Four if you count the launch party.

As I head into the Jean Paul Gaultier for Target runway, I can’t shake a bitter air of disappointment. It’s because JPG himself isn’t able to attend *tear* and accordingly, our hopes of Madge making a guest appearance are dashed.

But disappointment shifted to adoration as we watched an adorable video of Jean Paul waving and blowing kisses and saying he loved collaborating with Tar-Get. (Note: he didn’t call it Tar-jay.) The audience let out a collective “nawww” because he was so cute.

JPG for Target

The show kicked off with mega absolute babe Nicole Trunfio who is gorgeous and I die. She came out in a corset style bra, (a nod to Madge’s iconic cone bra), and denim shorts with an in-built tulle skirt that few people will buy but was still great.

Disclaimer: I’d seen the whole collection before (right here) and as individual pieces, I didn’t quite ‘get’ it. But seeing it all come together on the runway, it was alllll JPG. Breton stripes, tough leather, bandannas and fishnet stockings. The line was accessorised with sailor hats and berets in case the nautical/French themes weren’t obvious, and it was sexy, directional and in line with Jean Paul’s iconic style. A big tick.

That said, upon seeing it all come to life, I came to the conclusion that I’m more into the men’s range than the women’s. It seemed more wearable and, for want of another word, neat.

It closed with Trunfio in a blush pink satin(?) overall set. In one word: daymnnn.

The rest of Target

We then shifted to the Target denim range, followed by the rest of Target apparel.

In terms of reviewing the garments themselves, I’m not sure that’s necessary. It was a Target show which means everything was wearable, accessible and seasonal. Of course, as always, there were select fashion-forward pieces (including an Ellery-esque silk top and a statement faux fur jacket). But largely it was an autumnal palette, with easy knitwear, easy shirting, easy corporate wear and easy everything else. It’s why we love Target, right?

So instead, Imma talk about the show. Not gonna lie, it was prob my favourite of the week.

Everyone was cheering and singing along. It felt like a Victoria’s Secret show at one point, as models pointed to the audience and waved to their mates.

Then there were the kids. My lord, the kids. They were the cutest ever. The crowd clapped and waved to them with near aggressive smiles and thumbs up. Adorable little smiles emerged everywhere.

Jessica Mauboy (love her) gave us one helluva peformance, while the entire audience whipped their phones out.

And the models, they were beautiful. Every different age, size and body shape under the sun walked down that runway, alongside Sonia Kruger, Giaan Rooney, Fiona Falkiner and Dannii Minogue.

As for the rest, we took lots of pics. Enjoy!
