There’s no doubt that online shopping is a major force in Australia for bringing in revenue.
Market research company, eMarketer, speculated Australia’s e-commerce market value would reach $32.56 billion by 2017. That’s a lot of dollars.
But online shopping is also tipped to help generate massive job growth in 2017.
Research by IBISWorld revealed an estimated 7.5 per cent annual rise in establishment numbers over the next five years, with more brick-and-mortar retail stores expanding to online platforms.
So which jobs are set to receive the most benefit? Apparently, point of sales technician, web and UX (user experience) designer and digital marketing coordinator roles are set to grow. Unsurprisingly, the online shopping market appears to be the driving force for growth.
But it doesn't just stop there.
According to the latest figures by the Bureau of Statistics, brick-and-mortar clothing, footwear and personal accessory retailing rose by 0.2 per cent in November 2016. This followed similar trends seen in September and October of the same year.
According to the NAB Online Retail Sales Index (March 2016), fashion contributed to 15.5% of annual total spending growth in 2016, ranking third after media and homewares.
My mum likes to joke that my contribution to particular online sites are the reason they’re still afloat. Good one, Mum.
Overall, online shopping provides an easy service for consumers, a revenue-increasing platform for retailers and job opportunities in various roles.
So I can totally justify the sneakers I just bought online, right?
