Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia announces preliminary designer lineup

Pumped.

Just when you thought the dust (and your Insta feed) had settled from the spectacle that was Melbourne Fashion Festival, IMG decides to release the preliminary schedule for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia.

Taking place at Sydney’s Carriageworks from May 14 to 19, the event will showcase Resort ’18 collections from 44 emerging and established designers. The impressive lineup includes:

Albus Lumen, Alice McCALL, Akira, Anna Quan, Bec & Bridge, Bianca Spender, C/MEO, Christopher Esber, Dion Lee, Double Rainbouu, Ginger & Smart, Hansen & Gretel, Justin Cassin, Karla Špetić, Katama By Garrett Neff, KITX, macgraw, Mariam Seddiq, Michael Lo Sordo, Pageant, Romance Was Born, Roopa Pemmaraju, Sass & Bide, Steven Khalil, Strateas.Carlucci, Ten Pieces, Thomas Puttick, Vale Denim, VMAJOR, We Are Kindred, Yousef Akbar and Zhivago.

There’s also a few more announcements to get the senses tingling. In a nostalgic lil twist, after 14 years, Sass & Bide will return to MBFWA to showcase Resort for the first time ever.

Dion Lee was also given the coveted title of festival opener, with Romance Was Born set to close.

“The MBFWA Resort 18 Collections schedule pays homage to incredible, established designers while highlighting impressive, emerging local talent,” said senior vice president and managing director of IMG Fashion Events, Catherine Bennett.

“Whether established or emerging, MBFWA offers designers national and global exposure to help them achieve their brand and business goals.”

This can be said for Anna Quan, who will debut her first solo show on schedule, after participating in the NEXTGEN show in 2016.

MBFWA will also highlight a number of Resort ’18 collections from menswear designers, including Double Rainbouu, Strateas.Carlucci and Justin Cassin.

We can also expect a focus on swim and athleisure, which is perfect for that Sydney backdrop. Featured designers include HUNTRLND, L’Urv, NIMBLE, Seafolly, Tone Fitness, Tully Lou, duskii, Aqua Blu, Kopper & Zink, She Made Me, Skye & Staghorn and Tacoola.

And for those who appreciate a fashion fix away from the runway, a series of leadership seminar will take place throughout the week. Keynote speakers and informative content will be curated by thought-leaders in the industry, including Ragtrader Live, Clean Cut Fashion Association and WGSN.

While MBFWA is an industry-only event, IMG is giving attendees the unique opportunity to experience the runway firsthand, through the Mercedes-Benz Weekend Edition. Tickets are on sale now.
