Last Thursday, retail giant David Jones opened its very first small-format store in Barangaroo, Sydney.

The bespoke, boutique (and kind of adorable) format measures in at just one-tenth of the size of the chain’s average spaces, featuring a range of brands and designs specifically tailored to each location.

“This format enables us to deliver a world-class shopping experience within the vibrant and busy areas where many of our customers live and work,” said David Jones chief executive, John Dixon.

All mini DJs will feature men’s and women’s fashion, beauty and accessories.

Plans for five more stores across Aus have also been announced, with a focus on more upmarket suburbs in Australia. These are set to appear in the next two years, with talk of a similar store opening in Brisbane earlier next year, followed by locations in all major capital cities.
