MSFW: Urban Bloom

Spring, we’re ready for you.

Coming in on the day before spring, the Urban Bloom runway was the perfect way to give a giant F U to winter.

The runway saw a brilliant lineup of local designers, with looks from Akira, Alice McCall, Uma Wang by Cose Ipanema, Kate Sylvester, Megan Park, Nevenka, Romance Was Born, Yeojin Bae showcased.

Alice McCall stuck to her signatures, delivering playsuits and her newfound staple, the draped-shoulder style. These were updated for the new season with fringing, textural details and a more striking palette (think deep navy and blush pink).

Nevenka gave us Picnic at Hanging Rock vibes, stepping beyond its traditional limits to introduce more exaggerated silhouettes. Despite nearing the dramatic, the label managed to retain its overriding Nevenka ease.

Kate Sylvester showed us just how much range she is capable of, delivering a wearable collection spanning leather pencil skirts, a onepiece, breezy spring dresses and sharp tailoring. Yet the collection remained fluid, thanks to an underlying ’70s vibe.

Romance Was Born, who closed the show, saw arms rise in the air as everyone reached for their phones. It’s the new measure of Fashion Week acclaim and Romance Was Born got an A+. Fans of the brand will already be familiar with the designs, currently stocked at David Jones.
