Princess Diana’s most iconic outfits are getting their own exhibition

Two decades after the tragic passing of Princess Diana, the fashion community still celebrates her contribution to the industry.
Kensington Palace has announced plans to showcase a number of Diana’s most iconic dresses as part of an exhibit that commemorates the 20th anniversary of her death in 1997.
Opening in February 2017, Diana: Her Fashion Story is set to run for two years, highlighting the late princess’ style evolution.
The exhibit will also explore Diana’s relationships with her favourite designers – including Gianni Versace, Bruce Oldfield and Catherine Walker – through a display of their original sketches for the royal.
Confirmed ensembles include the pale pink Emanuel blouse worn for her engagement portrait, the Victor Edelstein iconic ink blue velvet grown famously worn at the Whitehouse when the princess danced with John Travolta. And, a blue tartan Emanuel suit, worn for an official visit to Venice in the ’80s.
Exhibition curator Eleri Lynn explained that style was crucial in telling Diana’s story: “Every fashion choice she made was closely scrutinised,” she said in a statement. “Our exhibition explores the story of a young woman who had to quickly learn the rules of royal and diplomatic dressing, who in the process put the spotlight on the British fashion industry and designers.”
“We see her growing in confidence throughout her life, increasingly taking control of how she was represented, and intelligently communicating through her clothes. This is a story many women around the world can relate to.”
While ticketing information is not available yet, February 24 has been announced as the opening date.
