Some joker has created Vetememes raincoats, parody brand gets parodied

Some sort of parody inception.

The label synonymous with creating parody designs, Vetements, has just been parodied.

In some sort of parody inception, Demna Gvasalia’s long-sold out Vetements raincoat (which is retailing at up to $500USD on eBay), has been replicated.

Vetements, the brand known for creating clothing marked with knock-off DHL and Champion graphics, has been a street style fave for a while now. Unfortunately with a high-ish price point and in limited edition runs, it’s fairly out of reach for us commoners.

That’s where 22-year-old Davil Tran’s designs come in. The Brooklyn-based fashion enthusiast has created Vetememes, a new brand which parodies Vetements. Currently Vetememes has one item up for grabs, a plain raincoat emblazoned in the same way as the original.

We can’t imagine Vetements are too happy about this new addition to the market, however, it’s looking like Tran may be protected under a fair use defence if Vetements were to take legal action. Most recently, the Southern District of New York dismissed a case by Louis Vuitton against parody bag company, MOB. The fact that Vetements uses the logos of other companies is also likely to work in Tran’s favour, should a case ensue.

The jacket is available for pre-sale now and is a fraction of the cost of the original, retailing at $59. No word yet on any more Vetememes items.
