There’s a new clothing rental service giving you unlimited access to its clothes

They’re calling it a “closet in the cloud.”

Clothes hiring sites – we all know the drill. You temporarily hire a piece of clothing from a website, wear it and then send it back after a short period of time.

Rent the Runway is one of these websites. However, unlike other rental sites, they are launching a new service that will change the game forever.

Introducing Unlimited.

The program offers subscribers the chance to rent the entire Rent The Runway inventory for a monthly fee of $139. Once subscribed, you can borrow up to three items at a time, which you can keep AS LONG AS YOU WANT.

So in theory, you can rent a staple coat for the whole winter and a LBD for a one off event. As long as you pay your monthly membership fee, the world (closet) is your oyster.

Brands include Elizabeth and James, Marni and Proenza Schouler, with inventory updated every week.

But it gets better. The program aims to decrease the amount of fast fashion occurring in women’s wardrobes.

“Subscription provides exponential options to the wardrobe that you already own,” says co-founder and CEO, Jennifer Hyman.

“Instead of buying junk that’s going to fall apart and be disposable, you can put an end to shopping for fast fashion.”

The Unlimited collection has expanded to include a mix of contemporary and high-end brands, adding a touch of glam to the everyday wardrobe.

“It’s more editorial and trend-driven” says Hyman. “[Women can] use the subscription to add, colours, prints and newness.”

Although fashion subscription services are nothing new, Unlimited provides heightened flexibility and lengthened timelines. This grants users a unique experience, one that will help it overtake competition.

Although this is amazing news for those with access to Unlimited – it leaves us feeling a little bleak about the whole situation. For two reasons:

  1. The service is not available in Australia yet
  2. We weren’t the one to think of it

For those in America, you have been #blessed with this new service. But with over 40,000 women on the waitlist, you might have to fight for it.
