Remember when the internet was first a thing, and chatrooms were pretty much the coolest thing ever? Facebook is bringing ‘em back.

Say hello to Messenger Rooms. Reminiscent of Facebook's unsuccessful 2014 Rooms app, Messenger Rooms is currently being rolled out for trial on Android devices in Canada and Australia.

The feature will let you create or search for ‘rooms’ around a specific topic. Anyone can join the room, however there is scope for an admin to require approval for new room members, to avoid trolls.

There’s no news yet on whether the feature will roll out permanently, but as High Snobiety points out, Facebook has already announced the feature in Australian newspapers, something which is unusual when testing features. Here's hoping.
