The NGV is giving away thousands of flowers in an interactive artwork

Blooming gorgeous.

Thousands of flowers will be gifted between strangers for the Taiwanese-American artist’s artwork coming to Melbourne in October.

The Moving Garden will feature 1,000 fresh flowers each day, and 106,000 flowers in total, for gallery-goers to pluck and hand over to strangers on the street.

The exhibition, a part of Asia TOPA: Asia-Pacific Triennial of Performing Arts, “inspires contemplation of social themes like trust and self-awareness,” said NGV Director Tony Ellwood.
The artist himself, Lee Mingwei, will also present a free talk about his highly acclaimed body of work.

The Moving Garden will open at NGV International on Saturday October 15, and will be on display until Thursday January 29 2017. Entry is free.
