Gorillaz: Humanz

Frankly, not their best work.

Oh man. I really, really wanted to love this one… and I do, occasionally.

But for any die-hard Gorillaz fan, it’s frankly not their best work.

A long-awaited return from the cartoon band that delivered game-changing albums in Demon Days and Plastic Beach, the band frequently misses the mark on Humanz.

I can’t tell if it’s the noted lack of Damon’s bone-chilling slow-rapping, or the unusual collaboration choices, or just the songs themselves, but there’s something missing. The only song that feels like it was made by Gorillaz is the jamming, down and dirty ‘Saturnz Barz’.

Perhaps, ironically, for an album titled Humanz, the thing that’s missing? I think it’s the heart.
