Kyary Pamyu Pamyu: KPP Best

Sugary sweet.

It feels like J-Pop has been tipped as the next big thing for a very long time now. It’s sugary sweet, insanely catchy and quirky in that inimitable Japanese style. But is the culture gap here just a little too wide?

Kyary has always been one of the more approachable J-Pop artists and KPP Best collects the singles from her mainly Japan-only releases into one giant, hypercoloured collection.

Debut single ‘Ponponpon’ is legitimately amazing. It’s totally insane. You can sing along despite it being in Japanese and the video features skeletons, breakdancing drag and fart jokes.

At 24 tracks long, new listeners to the world of J-Pop might find KPP Best overwhelming. Just like overdosing on an entire packet of lollies, too much J-Pop can leave you feeling a little giddy.

Skim through the collection, pick out your favourites and make sure to watch the videos – the fashion alone is out of this world.
