Mutemath: Play Dead

WORDS BY BIANCA O’NEILL

Looks like this New Orleans band has finally hit its stride.

Mutemath is back, and it looks like this New Orleans band has finally hit its stride.

Opening with the recently previewed track, ‘Hit Parade,’ frontman Paul Meany tells us it’s “the first song we’ve ever recorded that sounds like what Mutemath set out to sound like from the very beginning.”

Admittedly, it’s been a confused ride. From 2011’s bluesy Odd Soul album, to a complete 180-degree flip on the electronica-driven Vitals, they’ve asked fans to stick with them on the journey.

If anything, this album brings it all together in one clear vision – and although I’m an Odd Soul-lover, this latest is looking up.
