Hourglass Cosmetics announces it’ll be 100% vegan by 2020

WORDS BY VERONICA STANFORD

Leading by example.

In a win for people and animals everywhere, cult beauty brand Hourglass has announced its goal to become a vegan brand by 2020.

Aptly announced on World Vegan Day, Hourglass is calling upon other beauty brands to follow suit.

Expanding on its existing 100 per cent cruelty-free ethos, Hourglass will look to replace animal-derived ingredients including beeswax and carmine from its products.

“At Hourglass, we believe that luxury is a combination of innovation and integrity,” said Hourglass founder and CEO, Carisa Janes, in a statement.

“This begins with our commitment to creating cruelty-free products and ultimately being the first completely vegan luxury cosmetics brand in the world. It is not a simple solution, but we are dedicated to putting in the time and effort it will take to find vegan alternatives for our product formulas.”

The brand’s current vegan offering includes the Veil Mineral Primer, Vanish Foundation Stick and Ambient Lighting Powder.
