Study shows 78 per cent of people now regret their tattoos

No ragrets.

I’ve long wanted a tattoo but never taken the leap. Mostly because I’m too scared I’ll end up wishing to God it goes away.

Turns out waiting hasn’t been such a bad idea. A survey by Advanced Dermatology has shown that a whopping 78 per cent of people with a tattoo now regret their decision to get inked. Huge, right?

The survey of more than 600 participants also revealed some other interesting findings. Namely:

  • that three in four with ‘tattoo regret’ hadn’t planned their ink beyond a few weeks. In fact, 28 per cent of those who don’t like their ink had been tattooed within just a few hours of the idea (surprise, surprise).

  • that 91 per cent of those with ‘tattoo regret’ got inked during, or before, their twenties.

  • that tribal designs, hearts and roses are the most regretted images, with inspirational words, crosses, skulls and butterflies also up there.

So if you’re thinking about getting ink, looks like you may want to sit on it for a while (and come up with an original design).
