The iconic “Craftsman boots” are already known and sold across the globe, empowering stories of people that embody Undeniable Character.

Based at our R.M.Williams Workshop in Salisbury, South Australia, this role reports to the Head of Apparel. This full-time position involves creating and executing apparel developments as briefed by the Design team and Merchandising team. Working from concept to mass product, driving on-time development, creating garment specifications whilst maintaining quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop apparel garments according to merchandising brief and in line with design aesthetic, to meet product cost (MGP) requirements.
  • Coordinate all development activities [i.e., fabric, sundries, finish, style/construction approvals] to ensure that prototypes, salesman samples and bulk production are delivered on time and according to GTM calendar.
  • Source and develop apparel garments with internal and external vendors.
  • Negotiate prices and terms with suppliers.
  • Monitor supplier performance to assess ability to meet quality and delivery requirements.
  • Meet with suppliers to discuss performance metrics, to provide performance feedback, and to discuss production forecasts or changes.
  • Pro-actively research new components and technologies, to match and anticipate design team’s requirements.
  • Consolidate materials, leverage components and drive efficiencies across the department.
  • Ensure appropriate development documentation is created and up-dated for assigned styles, including BOMs and final Technical-packs.
  • Collaborate effectively within the Product Creation Teams (Merchandisers, Designers, Quality Control) to guarantee product targets are achieved.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with internal customers and suppliers/contractors
  • Review or update sourcing practices in accordance with new or changing environmental policies, standards, regulations, or laws.
  • Translate brand strategies into quality strategies within the selected source base.
  • Meet production deadlines with a high focus on quality.
  • Ability to work with long- and short-term goals.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Technically strong in garment construction.

 

KEY SKILLS

  • 5 years experience in product development (apparel) ideally in a similar role with a premium apparel/ lifestyle brand.
  • Diploma level qualification in Fashion Production/ Pattern making / Textile Design or Quality Control
  • Sound knowledge of Adobe Illustrator software
  • Strong experience in producing specification sheets
  • Solid understanding of garment construction
  • Good knowledge of pattern grading and the manufacturing process
  • Sound knowledge of Microsoft office
  • Ability to work under high pressure and tight deadlines
  • Ability to drive the development process
  • Strong negotiating skills and ability re-engineer products to meet the required margins
