Role Description
Reporting to the Head of Design, this position is accountable for the technical construction, quality and ‘fit for end use’ assessment of handbags, leather wallets & smalls categories. The primary objective of this role is to support the Design process to ensure that each product is developed on time, achieves target margin and Standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for quality testing raw materials and hardware
- Assess briefs for samples in conjunction with Designer to ensure that specification for styles are being communicated in a clear and concise manner. This includes adding technical details where applicable.
- In collaboration with the designer, the role is responsible for communicating all P1 comments from fitting process to ensure, that the product achieves target margin, Mimco design DNA ad quality standards and in line with business-critical path
- Create Pre-Production specifications and order all samples by the deadlines outlined in the company timetable
- Responsible for approving all Pre-Production samples by the deadline outlined in the company timetable.
- Provide solutions and suggestions to amend product construction to ensure that the best FOB price is achieved, blended target margins are achieved and that the product is fit for end use.
- Support designers wherever necessary to negotiate workable pricing in line with set GP targets
- Responsible for compiling the Chart document and keeping it up to date with the status of each style
- Monitor deadlines and ensure all samples are received by suppliers in accordance with company timetable
- Liaise with Marketing Team and arrange PR sample ordering with suppliers ensuring they are delivered on time to meet PR deadlines
- Ensure quality-related documentation is reviewed and updated on a regular basis and distribute documentation to suppliers.
- Review of all store and customer repair/return data on a weekly basis, initiating actions where relevant.
- Participate in seasonal review of supplier performance with Designers and production team to build forward year Supplier Matrix and identify gaps in supplier base.
KEY SKILLS
- Diploma or degree qualification in Accessories Production/Design/Quality Control or similar (preferred)
- Product development experience with leather accessories, preferably handbags
- Previous experience in dealing with China based suppliers (preferred)
- Understanding of all components used to create leather handbags
- Understanding of raw materials, specifically leather
- Ability to fit bags and identify construction issues
- Excellent Outlook, Excel & Photoshop skills
- Excellent critical path and time management skills
- Ability to work under pressure and a high level of attention to detail
- Stakeholder management skills – specifically with suppliers overseas
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong negotiation skills – highly regarded
