‘Collecting Comme’ at NGV
Nov 04 -
Aug 01

Showing a selection of Rei Kawakubo's designs for Comme des Garçons
One of the most visionary designers of our time, Rei Kawakubo, will be displaying a selection of designs at Melbourne’s own NGV this summer.
Collecting Comme examines Kawakubo’s unique sense of style, ‘deconstructed’ shapes and a radical concept of the relationship between body and dress.
The exhibition will include more than fifty examples drawn from the NGV’s significant Comme des Garçons holdings, generously gifted to the Gallery by Takamasa Takahashi. It will be supported by additional loans from Takahashi’s archive and highlight key collections and recurrent themes in Kawakubo’s work.
The designs of two of her protégés, Junya Watanabe and Tao Kurihara, willl also feature.
The exhibit is open to the public for free from October 31 2019, to July 26 of next year.
