An independent label has accused Oscar de la Renta of ripping off its designs

Same old story.

Unfortunately, accusations of big name designers ripping off smaller labels is a narrative we know all too well in the fashion industry.

This year alone we’ve heard claims against H&M, lawsuits between Gucci and Forever 21, and complaints about Zara from just about everyone.

The latest designer to join the feud is UK independent label Cimone, accusing Oscar de la Renta of lifting designs from its SS17 collection.

Cimone claims Oscar de la Renta’s SS18 show took designs directly out of its own SS17 preview, which took place one year prior.

The designs in question involve white silhouettes splattered with paint. Cimone has claimed the colours, the placement of paint and even the cut of the pieces mirror its own SS17 designs.

It’s the first showing from Oscar de la Renta with new creative directors Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia at the helm, who cited pop art as their inspiration.

You can check out both designs in the gallery above, we’ll let you decide for yourself.
