The finalists of the DHL Fashion Export Scholarship have been announced. Welcome Ephemera, Christopher Esber and Penny Sage.

Nicole Banning of Syndey-based label, Ephemera, is known for her swimwear made from Italian lycra, boasting a range of brights paired with sophisticated black pieces.

Auckland independent label, Penny Sage, boasts beautiful designs crafted by Kate Megaw with an attention to fair and sustainable production.

Christopher Esber, of the eponymous label, is known for his forward thinking approach to tailoring seen through relaxed cuts, raw accents and feminine and masculine influences.

With the scholarship offering expert mentoring and logistics support, the finalists were chosen on a little more than pretty designs.

While overall visual appeal was a factor, market potential, originality, business acumen and strategy determined the finalists.

The scholarship was open to Australian and New Zealand fashion designers who have been exporting for less than four years, in an attempt to help increase international reach.

The prize pack is pretty darn awesome, with $10,000 worth of international freight, mentorships from IMG and DHL to talk export strategies. The winner will also receive a trip to New York Fashion Week in 2017.

With previous title holders including ByJohnny., Michael Lo Sordo, Kahlo, Haryono Setiadi, We Are Handsome and Bec & Bridge, the scholarship is sure to set the winner on the international fashion stage.

We’ll make sure to update you on the results, with the winner announced in September.
