Gucci responds to Forever 21’s lawsuit by filing another lawsuit
And the saga continues.
Here we go again.
Gucci has hit back at Forever 21’s lawsuit by filing yet another lawsuit.
To provide a little backstory, Gucci and Forever 21 have been embroiled in a legal battle since late last year, after Gucci sent a cease-and-desist letter to the retailer for using stripes synonymous with the Gucci brand.
You might recognise these stripes as the green-red-green, blue-red-blue combo that has actually been under federal trademark protection by Gucci since 1988.
Forever 21 dismissed these claims back in June, hitting Gucci with a lawsuit aiming to cancel its trademark registration.
Now, as a response, Gucci has returned with an official counterclaim.
Here’s what the fashion house said in a statement released to Refinery29:
“In two filings today in the United States District Court, Central District of California, Gucci has asked the Court to dismiss the spurious claims that Forever 21 lodged on June 26, 2017, and has brought counterclaims against Forever 21 for willful trademark infringement, trademark dilution and unfair competition.”
At this point, we understand if your head is starting to spin.
It’s all pretty ironic coming from two fashion brands who have both been accused of ripping off artists’ designs a number of times this year alone.
