Joan Didion is Céline’s new poster girl

A natural though surprising choice.

In a move marrying the elegance and beauty of intelligence, Céline has enlisted octogenarian author Joan Didion for its latest campaign.

Renowned for her thoughtful literary essays and upheld as American literary royalty, Didion quickly garnered attention for her chic uniform dress and became a style icon, both literary and in fashion.

Although perhaps surprising, Didion is a natural choice for the label, as headed by Pheobe Philo. Both conduct themselves with grace, thoughtfulness, poise and a little austerity, together adding up to a depth of inimitable glamour; worn by Didion and attempted by many.

Famously, Didion’s packing list has become somewhat of a sartorial mantra, echoed infinitely across tumblr and the rest of the internet: “To Pack and Wear: 2 skirts, 2 jerseys or leotards,1 pullover sweater, 2 pair shoes, stockings, bra, nightgown, robe, slippers, cigarettes, bourbon…”

Without wanting to regurgitate the sentiment of the rest of the fashion world, we are in love.
