Next week is Wool Week and we promise it’s cooler than it sounds

Celebrating our finest export.

We bet you didn’t know Australia produces around 90 per cent of the world’s fine apparel wool. Yep, it’s a fibre that’s played an integral role in the Australian economy since 1797.

And now it’s time to celebrate one of our finest textile exports, with Wool Week launching on May 9.

This year, Westfield Sydney will be joining in the wooly fun, playing host to the ‘Designer Yarns’ pop-up. In partnership with The Woolmark Company, the pop-up will celebrate the use of Australian Merino wool in fashion, both locally and internationally.

The ‘Designer Yarns’ series will feature Ginger & Smart, Bianca Spender, Strateas Carlucci and MJ Bale. The space will see the designers behind these brands discuss the use of merino wool in their latest collections.

The pop-up will transform each day into a space for designers to showcase sketches, fabric swatches and inspiration for their Autumn/Winter 2016 collections. The space will also allow for shoppers to interact with designers each day, from 12:15pm – 1:15pm.

And for those looking to brush up on their own wool-making skills, Extreme Knitting classes taught by knitting savant, Jacqueline Finch, will be running. So now you can finally patch up that woollen scarf, and learn how to cast on and off like your Nan can.

But that’s not all. Woollen designs from Alexander McQueen and Teerabul Songvich – part of the upcoming exhibition Isabella Blow: A Fashionable Life – will be showcased for the duration of the pop-up.

For more info on the Designer Yarns schedule, head to the Westfield Sydney website.
