Patagonia is using fruit to dye its latest ‘Clean Color’ collection

Patagonia is doing good things right now. Last month, it came out on top of the 2017 Ethical Fashion Report for minimising the risks of forced labour, child labour and exploitation through its supply chains.
Now it’s looking toward sustainability, with the release of its Clean Color Collection.
Designed for both men and women, the entire collection has been dyed naturally. Sage and tan-hued clothing were dyed using mulberry leaves, pinks result from prickly pear and pomegranate, and darker shades come from biowaste, such as agricultural residue.
The colours were all sourced from California-based company, Swisstex, which offers natural and sustainable alternatives to chemical dyes (that are often toxic).
It’s an important step forward, as textile dyeing in countries like India and China often results in high amounts of untreated wastewater dumped into local streams and rivers.
