Saint Laurent may be looking for another creative director

Bye Hedi.

There has been a few changes for French fashion houses in the last year, namely Raf Simon’s exit from Dior and the ousting of Alber Elbaz from Lanvin. And 2016 may be the scene for another.

Rumours have been floating around the industry that Hedi Slimane, current director at Saint Laurent, will be moving on from the French label with a potential replacement in Anthony Vaccarello.

Vaccarello currently holds post as creative director at Versus Versace and had been tipped to take over the company one day.

As WWD reports, Slimane has failed to reach an agreement on the renewal of his contract and as a result, the company has been looking into potential replacements.

Vaccarello’s sleek, rock-inspired silhouette is said to be sexier and more refined than Slimane’s grunge aesthetic and would be a perfect fit for the label.

But while critics have suggested Slimane’s Saint Laurent lacks the polish and innovation of Vaccarello, the unprecedented sales and dynamic growth during his time at the company can’t be ignored.

Slimane’s menswear collection, which normally closes out men’s fashion week in Paris, has now been moved to coincide with his womenswear collection in LA in February.

But while Saint Laurent has refrained from comment, rumours are always rife in the fashion industry and we’ll be waiting to see what happens next.
