VAMFF Diary: Stylo:Files AW16 runway at Chadstone the Fashion Capital
The one where I ate my weight in arancini balls.
Yes everyone, It’s Thursday already. While we have loved the events at the Royal Exhibition Building, we were excited to venture to Chadstone for the Stylo:Files AW16 runway.
Arriving early, we were ushered to a mini cocktail party where guests schmoozed and I ate my weight in arancini balls.
These things are always a lot cooler from the outside looking in. I felt like an awkward Year 7 surrounded by a lot of tall Year 12’s that didn’t give me a second look.
I stuck it out however, very eager to watch the magic of Stylo:Files unfold.
The show was split into genres with names that sounded like they belonged on an OPI bottle.
I Am Capsule
The show’s opener did not disappoint. Models marched on a mirrored runway, sporting the designs of Ellery, Chrisopher Esber, Carla Zampatti, Rebecca Valance and Bianca Spender. Silhouettes were draped and colours were monochromatic – everything about this was perfect.
Hollywood Heroine
These designs were on the feminine side, showcasing bold prints that never go out of style. Breaking it up, however, was an M.J. Bale suit that left everyone swooning. This model was really, really, ridiculously good looking.
Urban Wanderer
These pieces took us on safari: think khaki, beige and sand (like beige but more sandy) colourways. Silhouettes were simple and classic, as designers like Seed, Witchery and Karen Millen brought out the warrior in all of us.
Man Style
This collection favored the androgynous vibe. Gals wore tailored basics paired with statement accessories. Men wore flawless suits that complemented the womenswear effortlessly.
Graphic Novel
One of my favourites from the entire show, this series did not hold back. Models ditched the basics for bold prints and textures. Each garment housed a statement pattern that individualised it from the rest. One pink Gorman jacket needs to be in my possession ASAP.
Broken Muse
Elyse Knowles in a beanie, need I say more? She sported a Sass and Bide metallic midi that looked flawless on her. The rest of the models rocked streetwear that, judging by the phones in the air, definitely impressed – we even got a sneak peak at the Jean Paul Gautier for Target collection.
La Hacienda
Now I am not sure what La Hacienda translates to, but if the collection is anything to go by, I think it means ‘effortlessly amazing.’ This range included the type of stuff I just couldn’t pull off, but would definitely buy in the hope of trying to.
Winter Bohemian
As the name suggests, the closing ensembles were definitely more cozy. Ready for winter, we saw maxi dresses paired with thigh high suede boots – watch it guys, this will be everywhere in the next few months. Men wore textured blazers embossed with floral prints, accompanied by plain button-up shirts.
Pretty good for a Thursday evening.
