Ikea’s new app lets you virtually fill your house with its furniture

It’s like Pokémon Go but with furniture.

If you love Ikea but don’t fancy making a trip in-store, you need to get onto this.

Everyone’s favourite Swedish mega-homeware store is about to release a new augmented reality app. ‘Ikea Place’ is designed to make buying decisions easier and help you get inspired.

The app lets you virtually place true-to-scale 3D-models of Ikea furniture in your own home using your iPhone (sorry Android friends).

It’s kind of like Pokémon Go but with furniture.

Simpler than assembling a Billy bookcase, to work the app you just grab your phone and scan the room you’re trying to design. Then browse the thousands of Ikea products and find what you’re looking for. Once you’ve selected the product, move it around the room on your phone screen to see where it would look best.

The new app will be showcased at ACMI in October at the Make Room for Life exhibition and available to download soon.
