Twitter is reportedly scrapping its 140 character limit

Making way for 10,000 word rants.

At risk of facing the plight of MySpace and becoming a has-been social networking platform (sorry Tom), Twitter is a-changing.

According to reports, the Twittersphere will soon be scrapping its 140 character limit for something much more sizeable. How does 10,000 characters sound?

Apparently the platform has been facing a steady decline for some time now, with the changes marking an effort to rejuvenate the platform and boost its audience. How this will be received, however, is speculative.

With blogs and Instagram currently the platforms du jour for voicing one’s opinions and rants, we have to wonder whether this gap in the market is big enough? Not to mention that Twitter’s 140 character limit is its defining feature. That said, any opportunity to remove those painfully Facebook monologues from our feeds is most welcome.

The changes will reportedly function in the same way that Instagram and Facebook do now, with a few lines visible and the option to see more.

Exact details are yet to be confirmed, but we suggest keeping eyes on Re/code for details.
