Study shows having friends at work makes you better at your job

The research is in; having good friends at work supposedly makes you better at your job.

While your colleagues can sometimes distract you with funny dog videos and general office politics, a research paper has found having mates at work leads to a more productive environment.

The paper, entitled ‘Does fun promote learning?’ was published in the Journal of Vocational Behaviour earlier this year.

According to the research, getting along with your work pals encourages sharing of ideas and information, leading to an informal learning system that benefits everyone.

The lead author of the paper, Michael Tews, explained, “When employees are afforded opportunities to socialise with one another, higher-quality relationships are more likely to develop, which can open the door for the exchange of ideas.”

Another key finding was that managers should promote ‘fun’ in the workplace, which we’re taking as the introduction of dogs in the office, effective immediately.
