Woodes releases Game of Thrones-inspired single

Words by Mariah Papadopoulos

A bittersweet ode to homesickness.

Listening to Melbourne artist Woodes’ new single ‘How Long I’d Wait’, it isn’t hard to imagine the dreamy garden oasis that inspired the song. What is harder to believe is that it was dreamt up in response to Game of Thrones.

Taking inspiration from what she dubs the “dreamspace” of the final season’s first few episodes and  her own vivid daydreams, ‘How Long I’d Wait’ is hopeful but bittersweet.

The track, which premiered last night on Triple J, blends string quartets with electric guitar to create the confusing sense of melancholia and excitement.

“I wrote ‘How Long I’d Wait’ after a big block of time away from home,” explains Woodes.

In early 2018, Woodes released her sophomore EP Golden Hour and this year, she’ll join Thelma Plum on her Better in Blak tour on Australia’s east coast throughout August.

‘How Long I’d Wait’ is the first track from Woodes’ debut album which is set for release early next year.
