Book review: The Graphic Design Idea Book

Very, very clever.

They say don’t judge a book by its cover.

But YOLO, I’m going to do it anyway because this is a book on graphic design.

Based on its cover it gets a nine because, note to the slow, the pictures spell out the title and that’s really clever. What’s inside is perhaps even more clever. Built for design novices like myself, it serves as an introduction to the key elements of design.

It’s both informative and accessible, using graphics to illustrate key technical points.

Drawing and sharing inspiration from 50 acclaimed designers, it covers themes from ‘simplicity’ (don’t underestimate the value of negative space) all the way to ‘wit and humour’.

Accordingly, it’s visually satisfying and very, very clever.
