A fashion blogger’s guide to little ol’ Adelaide

A definitive guide to Adelaide’s most Insta-worthy spots.

Adelaide. The small suburban city in Australia which is a little bit of an underdog.

Labelled the City of Churches, it’s here you’ll find yourself indulging in the laid-back lifestyle. But this little hipster-esque city has more to offer than just a quiet place to hang.

This town is guaranteed #instagood and I’ll prove it to you. Here’s my blogger’s guide to little ol’ Adelaide.

1. Adelaide Fashion Festival
After a long week of runway hopping at Sydney’s fashion week, the adrenaline rush still hasn’t settled down. So I’m getting really excited for Adelaide’s Fashion Festival. Held from October 22-25, local designers like TY-LR, Paolo Sebastian and Sig The Label will gather for South Australia’s annual celebration of the fashion industry. Some events to look out for include the AFF Designer Market, which will host the best emerging designers in homewares, fashion and accessories and The Chittleborough Lane Designer Market, which will boast innovative and original wares from local designers and retailers. Expect nothing short of perfection. This is Adelaide’s #fashionblogger moment.

2. Fashion fixes and affordable budgeting
If fashion blogger Margaret Zhang has taught me anything, it is to always search the sales to find the luxe pieces at affordable prices. Places such as TuYu Adelaide and Sooki are my favourites for getting good quality yet affordable steals. They exclusively stock Australian collections like Asilio The Label, Elliatt and Bless’ed Are The Meek, and carry the best of both worlds for the perfect #OOTD: affordability and variety.

3. ’90s nostalgic hipster fuel (Austin & Austin)
Here’s something for food lovers and ‘live to eat’ enthusiasts like me. Austin & Austin is a hipster-esque café that will take you way down memory lane. Think ’90s nostalgic gaming alongside menu options like their godly bowl of Pulled Pork Nachos. And don’t forget the espresso Lego blocks. This is serious #foodporn.

4. Wharfs, strolls, and Glenelg
Glenelg. What can I say? This small little city has bay vibes and its own little charm. Take a small breather from the hustle and bustle of the city, as Glenelg leaves you feeling zen with the sound of the waves. If an adrenaline rush is more your style, then try wharf jumping. Then grab your very own fisherman’s platter from Bay Fish Shop to put your experience in full force.

5. Wall-hopping
If you are a seasoned #OOTD Instagrammer, check out the streets of City South for the best single-toned walls. With an abundance of textures and colours, you’ll maximise Adelaide’s effect on your Instagram feed. For lovers of more striking colour, check out the alleyways of Hindley Street for graffiti murals.

6. Coffee culture
Stay calm and drink coffee. This applies especially on Mondays when the blues decide to pay their weekly visit. Accordingly, your morning coffee run should include a visit to the cafes with the best-looking decorative interiors. Coffee hopping should include stops at Monday’s Coffee, Cafe 55 and The Howling Owl.

7. Every day feels like spring
Selfeet is taking over selfies, and what better way to #selfeet than with beautiful flowers. The Flower Depo is stopping hearts along Rundle Mall with their freshly bloomed pieces. Be sure to head over in October, it’s peony season.

8. The brunch life
The brunch life is primary to the Australian gastronomy culture. Take it from a foodie. The spirit of ‘brunching’ starts with a good plate of poached eggs, a smoked salmon baguette or celebrity-named burgers.  East End Providore, La Moka, and The Taxpayer are some of the best brunch places to please your tummy (they did mine).

9. Take aesthetically beautiful hikes
Who says trees are boring? If that’s you, you probably haven’t seen Morialta Park just yet. Even though hiking Morialta’s big hill it no easy task, it is worth both the effort and the trip. Track down three different trails to find yourself at the finishing line with a waterfall waiting on arrival. Adelaide is all about embracing the laid-back lifestyle. If Glenelg was not enough, this is your best bet.

10. Market full of bargains
Gilles Street. Both an op shopping haven and heaven for anyone who loves a good deal. And who doesn’t love a good bargain? A trip down City South and into Gilles Street Market is where you’ll be able to find the best little treasures. Think second-hand dealers and underground designers that you probably won’t find anywhere else.
