How-to: modern chignon
Slick and structured.
When we hear the word chignon, we immediately think bridal. Or maybe even a little old fashioned. For Jennifer Kate’s MBFWA show, REDKEN mixed things up, giving the style a slick, modern makeover.
Hair Director Richard Kavanagh created a Geisha-inspired version of the classic updo, with the structured style providing the perfect juxtaposition to the collection’s soft and feminine mood.
Here’s how to get the look:
- Start with slightly damp hair, part in the middle. Secure two pigtails at the nape and apply Short Sculpt 19 High-Hold Texturing Gel to create high-shine and control.
- Apply a few drops of Diamond Oil Shatterproof Shine to the mid-lengths and ends and use a flat iron to straighten.
- Working with elastics, fold and secure the hair into a bail before pinning with one bobby pin to the back of the head.
- Finish the look with a combination of FASHION WORK 12 Versatile Working Hairspray and TRIPLE TAKE 32 Extreme High-Hold Hairspray to create a high-shine finish.
