Interview: Luke Harris
There’s more to creating a great men’s haircut than you might think.
There’s more to creating a great men’s haircut than you might think.
We dropped by TONI&GUY Georges in Melbourne to watch Style Director Luke Harris create an on-trend mens cut.
What makes a good men’s haircut?
Key factors include taking into account head shape, bone structure, face shape, hair texture and creating a bespoke hair cut that suits the client and their lifestyle.
What kind of style have you created on Stephen?
A classic quiff with a lot of texture. It’s versatile and easy to style – short on the back and sides and longer on top.
What are the key barbering techniques you used to create the look?
A combination of traditional clippering techniques, clipper over comb and scissor over comb.
What tools and products did you use to create the look?
I created the style with tapper clippers, detailers and a selection of label.m combs then finished off the look with label.m Gel, label.m Volume Mousse and label.m Power Paste.
How can readers recreate this look at home?
Preparation is key and a good hair cut will do most of the work. All you want to do is refine the shape. Use some label.m Volume Mousse to prepare the hair. Blow dry the hair off the face and once the hair is dry use some label.m Power Paste to further mold and refine the shape.
Why should guys choose TONI&GUY for their next cut?
For the individual experience. Your stylist will get to know you and your hair and develop a bespoke cut that’s best for you as an individual. Cutting mens hair is not about slapping a hair cut on a head, it’s about the tailoring a style to the individual and teaching guys how to style and make the most of their cut.
How much does a men’s cut generally cost?
Men’s cuts cost the same as a women’s cut at TONI&GUY and I think this should be the case. It’s the same service, same amount of time and effort and technically, guys cuts are the hardest to do. The room for error is zero.
