Nailed it.

Anyone who’s had a manicure will be familiar with the unbridled confidence that comes with a shiny new set of nails. But if you’re anything like me, you might find yourself a bit stumped when figuring out what to ask for at your next salon appointment.

We’ve road-tested the latest beauty drops, so you don’t have to. Head to our Beauty section for more.

To spotlight the trends we can expect to see this spring (and so you know exactly what to ask for) we’ve asked the Founder of Melbourne nail salon Buff Studios to share the five trends she’s been seeing the most and what she expects to see more of this season.

Clean girl nails (aka rich girl nails)

This is a sheer, natural, perfectly manicured look – classically understated, you can wear it with anything and it offers the most subtle grow out of your colour to ensure your mani looks flawless for longer. It lets the health of your nails shine through. Minimalist nails aren’t going anywhere and at Buff Studios this is our signature.

Molten metal nails

The molten metal nail trend has emerged off the back of chrome nails which has been trending for a while but this steps it up a notch with a 3D liquid metal look.

3D/textural nails

Add some dimension to your nails with the use of 3D gels. They add a textural layered look and can be a subtle way of adding a unique dimension to your nails. Another way to approach this trend, particularly if you want it to pack a punch, is by having a bright colour highlight over a milky pink base.

Negative space

Nail art doesn’t have to be all-encompassing, and the negative space trend plays on a ‘less is more’ approach. Think imperfect shapes, frames and soft abstract lines.

Short, square nails

Long, almond-shaped nails have been basking in the spotlight for a while and while they’re not necessarily going anywhere, we’re also seeing the return to shorter square nails (a renaissance is sweeping through celebs at the moment).

This is because shorter, square nails are wearable by everyone, they require less maintenance and lend themselves perfectly to a dramatic, bright pop of colour. There are also variations of square like a sharp square with a crisp edge, a square with rounded edges and a squoval for a rounder look.
