AS TOLD TO DAISY HENRY
Where to go for the perfect cut and colour.
Usually, the relationship you have with a hairdresser is one forged over time, through drastic haircuts, hours-long appointments and plenty of trial and error. A hairdresser who truly knows you knows the intricacies of your hair, how long you’ve been trying to tame that stubborn cowlick and when to push back against your (sometimes) irrational requests.

But occasionally, the time will come when you need to start fresh and try somewhere new. To make the process a little easier, we asked the people whose hair is quite literally part of their job description: Australian models. Whether it’s maintaining a signature hairstyle or helping their locks recover from the various heat tools used on set, models, perhaps more than anyone, understand the importance of finding a reliable hairdresser. Hair salon: Lndn Hair
I’ve just been for my third hair cut with Jamie at Lndn hair on Smith Street and boy oh boy am I grateful for that man. The salon is family run by Jamie and his wife Dani. Apparently it’s named after their daughter London – so precious!
Having curly hair you can’t just trust anyone with a pair of scissors and I’ve learnt this the hard way. I’ve had some pretty insane haircuts in the past but Jamie knows exactly what I want and what my hair needs. We typically do the same thing every time I go in, keeping the length with layers at the top to get some nice shape and movement. If you’ve got curls, pay the Lndn team a visit (you won’t regret it).

Hair salon: Toni and Guy
I’ve been getting my hair cut at Toni and Guy by Jasmin Movsowitz since October 2024. I love the salon because Jas is a friend first and my hairdresser second which makes it more of a catch up than anything else. Since seeing Jas, I’ve tried so many different short styles which was initially a leap of faith but now I can’t go back. I come in with a general vibe and we bounce ideas off each other but I ultimately trust Jas’ execution.

Hair salon: Toni and Guy
I moved to Sydney a year and a half ago and since then, I’ve never stopped going to Toni and Guy. It’s always been a fun journey with them, we collaborate and create content with every transformation. I get to dress up, celebrate my hair and honestly, it’s become a meditative process in its own way.
I recently went from a short, curly wolf cut with blonde tips to pink. After playing around with different pink shades and fully living my fairy dreams, two months later the team helped transition my hair to a beautiful maroon chocolate brown.
Growing up with curly hair made it difficult at times to find the right hairdresser. But three transformations in, I can confidently say that whether you’re after a subtle change like highlights and a trim, or a full transformation, Toni and Guy is the place.

Hair salon: Delilah Hair Studio
I’ve been getting my hair cut at Delilah Hair Studio in Brunswick East with Josie for the past two years. In addition to their extensive experience with curly hair, I love going to Delilah’s because of the people and overall atmosphere. The staff are all so friendly and kind – it truly is the perfect mixture of chatty, cheeky and calming.
I usually request to have a shape-up, aiming to maintain healthy ends and a chic shape, while enhancing my natural curl pattern. If I’m choosing to have a bigger cut, I’ll bring in a reference photo and the hairdresser and I will talk through how we can make it work with my specific curl pattern and texture.

Hair salon: Cov Hair
I go to Cov Hair and see Yoav. I typically get a trim but recently I showed Yoav a picture of Sora Choi when she had shorter hair and little side bangs as inspo. I wanted to have a stronger style.
I can be shy at times and before going to Cov, I felt nervous. But as soon as I sat down, Yoav had this warm energy that was so comforting. That made it a really relaxing and enjoyable experience. It was clear he was knowledgeable and an expert in his field. I’m grateful that the haircut was better than what I expected.

Hair salon: Muse Fitzroy
I have curly hair and like to have my hair done typically once year. I recently had done at the Muse Fitzroy by Emma Jeffrey and it was such a lovely experience! I asked for a healthy trim and received beautiful, healthy and hydrated curls.
It was my first time having my hair done by Emma and I’ll be going back when I need another trim! She’s so welcoming and respectful with hair which I really appreciate. The environment is so calm, cozy and relaxing so I enjoyed the experience with effortless results.
