In remaining true to the Shona Joy aesthetic, our collections don’t generally follow the trends of the season. We don’t believe in disposable fashion, with a mission to design the pieces that will be treasured as part of your wardrobe forever – striving to create pieces that transcend any season, occasion, day or evening and look just as glamorous in heels or bare feet.
We’re looking for a passionate Design Intern to join us from our newly expanded head office in Rosebery, Sydney. Reporting to our Production Manager the successful candidate will be responsible for assisting the production team with day-to-day tasks and providing general admin support across the team.
Key Responsibilities
- Steaming SMS ranges ahead of seasonal showings.
- Ticketing SMS ranges in preparation for seasonal showings.
- Preparing design packs to send to the Director + Head of Design (i.e.. packs of swatches, design boards, artworks, embroideries) on a weekly basis.
- Creating fabric hangers for the design room.
- Assisting with regular clean-up and updates for visual design boards.
- Preparation of printed materials for collection handovers from Production to other departments.
- As required, assist with cutting.
- As required, assist with hand sewing of any SMS collections.
- Rendering of digital boards as required.
- Assisting with digital mock-ups and print re-colours as required.
- Sorting/filing fabrics by groups.
- Assist with bulk packing after bulk inspections.
- Data entry of shipping comments into tech packs.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
- Develop a holistic understanding of the fashion industry.
- Understand the end-to-end production process from concept inception to garment production.
- Gain hands-on experience in the fashion production process.
- Learn visual merchandising techniques for showroom set-up.
- Understand daily tasks across the production function of fashion business to better understand the many roles and career paths available within the industry.
SKILLS PREFERRED
- Tertiary fashion qualification preferred.
- Strong interest and experience in production preferred.
- Availability – Wednesday & Thursday.
*Please note this position is unpaid, and expenses will not be covered however the internship can be accredited to relevant study requirements or Professional Experience Programs. You will also be required to provide Workplace Cover & Public Liability Insurance for the duration of your placement.
