Role Description
This hybrid role combines deep garment technical expertise with end-to-end production management. The Technical Production Manager is responsible for developing accurate technical specifications, managing fit and construction standards, overseeing sampling, and ensuring garments meet brand quality. At the same time, this person owns the full production timeline — managing critical paths, factory communication, materials readiness, and delivery schedules.
This role is central to ensuring that every style is executed flawlessly, efficiently, and on time.
Key Responsibilities
TECHNICAL DEVELOPMENT AND GARMENT CONSTRUCTION
- Create, update, and maintain detailed tech packs.
- Own garment construction standards, measurements, and finishing details.
- Conduct and lead fit sessions; analyse fit issues and update specs.
- Measure samples and provide accurate comments for proto, SMS, PP, and TOP samples.
- Work closely with factories to resolve technical challenges in patterning, fabric behaviour, or garment engineering.
- Ensure all technical information is correct, complete, and production-ready.
PRODUCTION TIMELINE AND CRITICAL PATH MANAGEMENT
- Build, manage, and maintain the production calendar for all styles.
- Track key milestones: sampling, fabric approvals, PP approval, bulk start, QC, and delivery.
- Proactively flag delays and implement action plans to bring timelines back on track.
- Manage WIP updates with suppliers and ensure production flows smoothly.
- Align production timelines with design, merchandising, and operations teams.
SAMPLE MANAGEMENT AND APPROVALS
- Coordinate the full sample lifecycle from proto to SMS to pre-production.
- Approve construction, fit, fabrics, trims, and colour accuracy.
- Ensure samples meet brand standards and are ready for production handover.
- Work with suppliers to correct errors quickly and efficiently.
FACTORY SUPPLIER COMMUNICATION
- Act as the main point of contact for all factories regarding technical specs and production status.
- Provide clear, professional communication and detailed follow-up.
- Manage factory capacity planning and confirm booking timelines.
- Ensure all materials, trims, and components are ordered and available on time.
QUALITY ASSURANCE AND BULK PRODUCTION OVERSIGHT
- Review pre-production samples for fit, measurements, and construction.
- Approve bulk fabric, trims, and lab dips.
- Conduct QC checks throughout production and before shipment.
- Troubleshoot and resolve any production or quality issues that arise.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Strong background in garment construction, patternmaking, and technical design.
- Experience managing production timelines or critical paths.
- Ability to work directly with offshore manufacturers.
- High accuracy and attention to detail, especially in measurement and construction.
- Strong organisational skills; confident managing multiple styles at various stages.
- Excellent communicator with a proactive, solutions-driven mindset.
