The Womenswear Buyer is responsible for leading the end-to-end selection, curation, and trading performance of Incu’s womenswear department, ensuring the product offering consistently reflects the Incu aesthetic and resonates with the modern Australian contemporary customer. This role delivers a commercially driven buying strategy across a curated mix of local and international brands, identifying opportunities to maximise sales, strengthen brand relevance, and drive departmental growth. With a strong understanding of market trends and Incu’s unique point of view, the Womenswear Buyer is entrusted with achieving both short-term trading wins and long-term strategic outcomes that elevate the assortment, enhance customer engagement, and contribute to the overall commercial success of the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a clear, data-driven buying strategy that aligns with Incu’s commercial objectives and brand vision.
- Curate a cohesive womenswear assortment that reflects the Incu aesthetic and meets the needs of the modern Australian contemporary customer.
- Identify growth opportunities across categories, brands, and product lines—balancing short-term trading wins with long-term strategic development.
- Lead seasonal buying cycles, preparing rigorously for local and overseas markets.
- Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with all local and international brand partners.
- Negotiate favourable terms including pricing, markdown support, discount structures, and exclusive product opportunities.
- Provide consistent and constructive performance feedback to brands, ensuring alignment on sell-through expectations and future buying strategies.
- Manage RTVs, product swaps, and other brand-related operational needs where required.
- Analyse key performance metrics (sell-through, stock turn, margin, weeks cover, etc.) to drive informed trading decisions.
- Manage the OTB in partnership with the Planning department to optimise inventory levels and maximise profitability.
- Identify core product lines and ensure adequate replenishment to support sustained sales performance.
- Prepare and present weekly trade updates and post-season reviews (PSR) to internal stakeholders, outlining clear actions for improvement.
- Work closely with Creative, Marketing, Retail, and Finance teams to support cohesive campaign execution, in-store storytelling, and commercial outcomes.
- Partner with the in-house Design team to share insights on trends, product performance, and market opportunities to help guide Incu private-label development.
- Coordinate with store teams on product training, store transfers, and general support to ensure womenswear product success across all doors.
- Demonstrate Incu’s core values and contribute positively to office culture and team dynamics.
- Mentor and develop junior team members, providing guidance on buying foundations, analysis, and relationship management.
- Act as a collaborative team player who is adaptable, hands-on, and solutions-focused.
- Conduct ongoing trend, competitor, and market research to ensure Incu remains at the forefront of contemporary womenswear.
- Undertake regular store visits to maintain close relationships with retail teams, gather feedback, and improve in-store execution.
- Attend domestic and international buying trips to source newness and deepen understanding of global womenswear directions.
