Fusing the talent of fashion industry veterans with the next generation of creative voices.
Prepare your wardrobes and wallets, sweeties – the Afterpay Australian Fashion Week lineup is officially here. Marrying innovative Next Gen talent, creative changemakers and gold-standard industry veterans, this year is set to deliver one of the most exciting fashion events on our local calendar.
Taking place from May 9 to 13, AAFW 2022 is a dynamic mix of creative physical and digital activations, dreamt up by some of the country’s top designers. As the official owner and operator of the event, IMG has also announced a selection of ‘2022 Changemakers.’ Expanding on the initiative the company launched last year, ‘Changemakers’ is a collective of fashion names “leveraging fashion as a cultural catalyst.”

Among the trailblazing names are designers like Alix Higgins, Eugene Lang and Liandra Gaykamangu, plus multidisciplinary artist Serwah Attafuah, photographer Byron Spencer and the owner of Distal Phalanx, Daniella Plaisted. “As the cornerstone for growth and recognition, AAFW celebrates the ingenuity of Australia’s top designers and creators, providing them with the opportunity to showcase their creativity and innovation across Australia and around the globe,” stated Natalie Xenita, Vice President-Managing Director of IMG Fashion Events & Properties Asia Pacific.
As for the shows? Launching the program with a Welcome to Country produced by First Nations Fashion and Design, this year boasts a cool 50 runway shows and activations. See collections from emerging designs like All Is A Gentle Spring, Eric Yvon and Iordanes Spyridon Gogos; in addition to innovative presentations from Adaptive Clothing Collective, Indigenous Fashion Projects and Afterpay’s Future of Fashion.
A range of diverse topics will be explored through industry talks, including Digital Fashion: The New Frontier, The Sustainable Business Journey and Empowering Voices: Fashion’s Cultural Impact on Representation and Inclusion. Fusing the talent of industry heavyweights with the next generation of creative voices, this year has something for all sartorial enthusiasts.
